Vincent Namatjira – Research Trip to Florence

On the 19th of November 2023, Vincent Namatjira began his research trip to Florence. Alongside Shifting Vision head curator and MAP scholars, the artist had the opportunity to explore the Medici Archive, gaining insight and inspiration from its extensive historical documentation. Aligning with Namatjira’s interests, during this research trip, the artist also acquired a profound understanding of Renaissance paintings and portraits, focusing specifically on figures from Medici. The trip included private tours of specific works at the Uffizi Gallery, Biblioteca Domenicana di Santa Maria Novella ‘Jacopo Passavanti’, Museo del Novecento, the MAP produced “Jews and the Medici” exhibition at Palazzo Pitti, Palazzo Strozzi, Palazzo Vecchio as well as the Pirelli HangarBicocca and Museo del Cenacolo Vinciano in Milano.
